BMW Motorrad opens its new chapter in electric mobility by launching the all-new CE 04.

The CE 04 is proof that BMW continues its pursuit of electromobility strategy for urban conurbations.

The CE 04 is powered by an electric motor capable of producing 31kW (42hp) and able to reach 0-50km/h in just 2.6 seconds.

Despite build as an urban commuter, BMW claimed the CE 04 has a maximum speed of 120 km/h while able to cover up to 130km thanks to a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 60.6 Ah (8.9 kWh).

According to BMW, the CE 04 is mounted with a permanent magnet electric motor located in the frame between the battery and the rear wheel.

As an added convenience, owners can charge the battery via a regular household socket, a wall box or at every public charging station.

BMW claimed that the charging time is around 4 hours and 20 minutes if the battery is completely flat, but owners can opt for a quick charger that cuts down the charging time to just 1 hour and 40 minutes.

However, if the battery level is at 20 per cent, the charging time to 80 per cent will take just 45 minutes.

Interestingly, like every petrol-powered BMW motorcycle, the CE 04 also offers Automatic Stability Control (ASC) as standard and Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) as an optional package.

The CE 04 also features three riding modes consisting of ECO, Rain and Road, while the (optional) Dynamic mode allows better acceleration.

Other exciting features include:

  • telescopic front fork with 35mm slider tube
  • single-sided swingarm with a spring strut
  • 120/70-R15 front tyre
  • 160/60-R15 rear tyre

The CE 04 features a 10.25″ TFT screen with integrated map navigation and connectivity to complete the look of a modern futuristic scooter.

BMW CE 04 is available in two colour schemes, Light Wight and Magellan Grey.

It is a 3-to-1 stainless steel exhaust system with a removable dB killer that meets Euro 5 emission standards.

Interestingly, the installation does not require any ECU modification, which we think is remarkable considering it allows owners to install these new exhausts worry-free.

According to Zard, while the stock exhaust makes 80hp @ 10,250rpm, the Trident 660 makes 82.7hp @ 9,730rpm with the full-system kit.

Moreover, Zard’s full system exhaust only weighed 3.6kg compared to the 8.1kg on the stock unit. In our book, that is a massive weight drop that helps boost the power-to-weight ratio.

The exhaust kit with Euro 5 homologation is available for a price of EUR1,105 (RM5.4k).

Suzuki has been making waves this past few months after launching several 2022 models.

The Hamamatsu-based company recently unveiled the GSX-S1000, GSX-S950 including a new generation Hayabusa.

Suzuki has updated the GSX-S750 with a new white and fluoro yellow colour scheme in the UK to ensure the current model stays relevant.

However, underneath the skin, the GSX-S750 maintains the same 749cc inline-four engine that makes 113hp @ 10,500rpm and 81Nm @ 9,000rpm.

Suzuki is likely to introduce an updated version of the GSX-S750 in the coming months, given the comprehensive updates done on the GSX-S1000 and Hayabusa.

Meanwhile, Suzuki rumoured to introduce an all-new GSX-R1000 and GSX-S1000T later this year.

Gresini Racing has announced YOUALL as one of the team latest sponsors for its new 2022 Ducati MotoGP project.

The Chinese carburettor and a fuel injection manufacturer is no stranger to Gresini as they have been working together in Moto3.

“We have been enjoying a partnership with YOUALL in our Moto3 venture for four years already, and when the move to the premier-class became available, they were amongst the first ones to pick it up,” said Carlo Merlini, Commercial and Marketing Director of Gresini Racing.

Meanwhile, Edison Li, Fujian CEO Youli Carburettor Co. Lts shared his excitement over the collaboration.

Flex-Box Gresini MotoGP team marks the start of something fresh after spending the last seven seasons with Aprilia.

The team set to compete in next season MotoGP campaign with Enea Bastianini and Fabio di Giannantonio onboard the GP21 Desmosedici.

 

Aprilia set to issue a worldwide recall for the RS660 and Tuono 660 after identifying a batch of poorly installed connecting rods.

The connecting rods were not manufactured according to the Noale factory specifications, which could result in an engine failure.

A case was submitted to the United States traffic safety authority National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) whereby a connecting rod on an Aprilia RS660 got torn off after clocking 2,300 kilometres.

As a precaution, the Italian motorcycle company has decided to replace the entire engine, including renewing the factory warranty.

It is estimated that around 700 units (including RS660 and Tuono 660) worldwide are affected by the recall.

A new patent suggests Honda is developing a powerful version of the Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin.

According to the documents, Honda tweaks the twin-engine in order to fit in a turbocharger in the form of a twin-screw compressor.

The concept is similar to the supercharger found on the Kawasaki H2/Z H2; however, Honda is developing a turbocharge that offers more torque in the lower end, thus improve the Africa Twin touring capabilities.

The patent shows that the compressor is mounted above the gearbox and would use two injectors for each cylinder.

We can safely assume the turbocharger will allow the Africa Twin to produce a higher power than the current 98hp @ 7,500rpm and 103Nm @ 6,000rpm available from the 1,083cc twin-cylinder engine.

While the latest patent may make us feel excited, the Japanese manufacturer is more likely to introduce a smaller version of the Africa Twin in the form of the revived Transalp rumoured to make its appearance this year EICMA.

BMW Motorrad will unveil the company new electric motorcycle, namely the CE 04, on July 7.

The announcement was made via BMW Motorrad’s Twitter page.

The electric scooter was previously spotted doing test runs on the streets of Europe.

Interestingly, the production version of the CE 04 strikes a remarkable resemblance to the concept model unveiled back in November 2020.

The CE-04 retains the same front panel highlighted by the V-shaped headlights and a boxy profile that intentionally designed to accentuates the massive battery hiding underneath the body.

Set to be launched via live-stream across BMW Motorrad official Facebook and YouTube channel, the CE 04 is one of the most intriguing electric motorcycles to look out for in 2022.

 

Benda makes the news again this week after presenting another variant to its current 300cc cruiser, weeks after launching the LFC700.

The BD300-16 is an upgraded and slightly premium version of the BD300-15 currently available in the market.

The new variant now comes with twin exhaust, revised fuel tank and fenders, including new alloy wheels.

Moreover, the BC300-16 gets a conventional handlebar, wider footpegs, and split sits to improve riding ergonomics for both rider and pillion.

Other features include:

  • 130mm front/150mm rear with 16″ wheels
  • all-LED lighting
  • TFT display
  • dual-channel ABS

Nonetheless, the BD300-16 remains powered by the same 298cc V-Twin capable of producing 30hp @ 8,500rpm and 25.3Nm @ 7,000rpm mated to a 6-speed gearbox with slipper clutch.

The BD300-16 is expected a rival the Honda Rebel 300 and a range of Royal Enfield motorcycles.

Norton Motorcycles have informed owners who received the V4SS from the previous owners that they are unable to fix the bikes.

The announcement came after Norton Motorcycles, under the new CEO, Robert Hentschel, revealed the company found many faults than its initial inspection.

In an official letter sent to the owners, Hentschel clarified that since discovering 35 individual faults with the V4SS built by the previous company, the new ownership has been trying to find the best way forward for the bikes despite having no legal responsibility to do so.

Previously, Norton offers to repair the V4SS, but after identifying more material defects, Hentschel suggests the best option is for the owners to file a claim against NMUL, currently in liquidation.

According to Norton, they cannot source all of the parts needed to repair the existing V4SS to meet the safety standard.

In a previous statement, Hentschel also revealed that it is not safe to ride the V4SS in its current state.

Nonetheless, Norton will continue to build the V4SS but will completely reengineer the motorcycle and not continue the one produced by NMUL.

Production is expected to begin by the end of 2021.

Chinese motorcycle manufacturer Benda officially launched its cruiser, the LFC700, a year after unveiling it at China International Motorcycle Trade Exhibition as a concept.

Interestingly, the production-ready LFC700 looks pretty similar to CIMA’s concept and comes in two variants, Standard and High-Power.

The Benda LFC700 s powered by an 680cc inline-four liquid-cooled engine with the Standard making 84.4hp @ 10,000rpm and 60Nm @ 8,000rpm while the High-Power offers 92.5hp @ 11,000rpm and 63Nm @ 8,500rpm.

According to Benda, the base variant can reach a top speed of 170km/h and 195km/h for the flagship version.

While both variants get a 20L fuel tank, only the High-Power variants come equipped with a slipper clutch.

Unlike the concept, the production version does not come with a ride-by-wire and cruise control function, which we assume keeps the cost low.

The High-Power variants also get an inverted front fork and rear monoshock from KYB, Brembo callipers (Nissin for the Standard variant) and ABS dual-channel.

Other notable features include:

  • all LED lighting
  • TFT display with navigation function
  • 310mm rear tyre
  • 235kg (kerb weight)

You can get your hands on the all-new LFC700 for a starting price of CNY38,800 (RM24,000) for the Standard and CNY45,800 (RM29,400) for the high-end model.

Meanwhile, the LFC700 is expected to be available in selected countries across Asia and Europe soon.
