Repsol Honda celebrates with Dani Pedrosa as he claims victory in the dramatic and controversial 2015 Shell Malaysian MotoGP whilst Rossi gets penalised.

The Sepang International Circuit just played host to arguably the most controversial race of the year. With the overall championship title still being fought for by Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo, drama was being expected, but not up to the level of what the world witnessed today.

While Dani Pedrosa went on to win the 2015 Malaysian MotoGP comfortably, Jorge Lorenzo came second and managed to keep the title race alive, but the main highlight of the day was the battle for third place between Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez. First, the duo kept passing one another in what was definitely among the best battles of the season.

However, in lap 6, right after Rossi overtook Marquez, things got nasty. As the latter tried to pass the Italian, they both collided, and down went Marquez to the ground, and straight into early retirement. The incident was immediately flagged for review by Race Direction for after the race. It was then a solitary race for Rossi in third, unchallenged by any other riders and unable to close on the leaders.

Speaking on what happened, Rossi, who spoke after the race said that Marquez had crashed into him. Marquez on the other hand, said that Rossi deliberately caused the collision to happen.

In the end, Race Direction handed Valentino Rossi with two penalties. The first of which sees him handed 3 penalty points, which sees him accumulate 4 penalty points in total this season. Secondly, as a result of his 4 penalty points,  Rossi will start from the back of the grid for the next race, which is the season-ending Valencia GP.

The decision was made following a meeting held in Race Direction with both Rossi and Marquez. Clearly upset with the ruling, Rossi was absent from the post-race press conference, leaving just race winner Pedrosa and second place Lorenzo to answer queries from press members.

Rossi is still leading the overall championship points table with 312 points, while Lorenzo stands at second with 305 points, and Marquez is at third place with 222 points.

As for the Moto3 race, Portuguese rider Miguel Oliveira of the RedBull KTM Ajo team took his fifth win of the season in an incredibly dramatic Moto3 race as title rival Danny Kent crossed the line in 7th position.

Finishing second was Oliveira’s teammate Brad Binder, who crossed the finishing line 0.089 seconds behind the former. Binder was also the fastest rider during the race, clocking a lap time of 2’13.571.

Coming in at third was Jorge Navarro of the Estrella Galicia racing team, who crossed the chequered flag 0.23 seconds behind the winner.

In terms of overall standings, it looks like things are going to boil down to the very last race in Valencia, as it is still mathematically possible for Miguel Oliveira (2nd overall) to beat Danny Kent who is ahead by 24 points. However, this scenario would only be possible if Oliveira wins the race and Kent does not finish the race.

Sadly, those who came to support local rider Zulfahmi Khairuddin had to face disappointment as the rider, who represents the Drive M7 SIC racing team, crashed and retired after 13 laps.

That being said, the final race is definitely going to be a nail-biting one as much as Moto3 is concerned.

In Moto2, overall champion Johann Zarco once again showed the world why he is the best at the moment with a dramatic win at the Sepang International Circuit. Zarco, who started second at grid behind Tom Luthi, was constantly trailing the latter from the moment the race started, right until the last lap.

In fact, it looked like Luthi was going for the win while Zarco seemed like he was comfortable at second position, probably due to the fact that he was already crowned as the overall champion for this year’s Moto2 race a couple of weeks ago.

However, everything changed the moment the duo entered the last lap, as all of a sudden, Zarco went all out and overtook Luthi at a blink of an eye, and zoomed all the way to the chequered flag, with Luthi having a tough time trying to keep up with the champ.

Having secured his eighth win this season, Zarco finished the race 0.98 seconds ahead of Tom Luthi, who stands at fifth overall. Finishing third was Jonas Folger. Overall runner-up Alex Rins on the other hand, who was at third position during the race, crashed at turn 9 half-way through the race.

As for our local riders, Hafizh Syahrin, who represents Petronas Raceline Malaysia, got the best result for the day at eighth place, compared to Ramdan Rosli of the Petronas AHM Malaysia who finished 24th  and Azlan Shah of Idemitsu Honda Team Asia who finished 16th.
