National motorcycle racer, Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman hints early retirement from active racing on the Asian stage.

In speaking to Harian Metro, Azlan revealed that he has not received an answer on his team’s participation in the 2024 Asian Road Racing Championship (ARRC). His current team, TKKR Racing Team posted on Facebook recently that they could not secure a sponsor for the 2024 season, thereby throwing theirs and Azlan’s immediate future into doubt.

“I will retire early from Asian competition if I do not receive an offer. I have already set a target to race at the Asian level until I am 40,” he said.

“Realistically, other teams prefer hiring younger racers compared to older ones. My body isn’t as strong now… I can still fight it out but I need twice the effort to slug it out with them in terms of stamina.”

On a more positive note, Azlan may switch to racing in the Endurance World Championship (EWC) in 2025 should this year’s ARRC participation does not come to pass. He had already raced at the 2023 Suzuka 8-Hour Endurance as part of the EWC calendar in the Formula EWC class with Frontier Racing.

Azlan has an impressive resume, having won several national superbike titles while riding for Chia PJ Kawasaki and took part in the Moto2 World Championship from 2013 to 2015. He was also the inaugural ASB1000cc class champion in ARRC in 2019, riding for then ONEXOX TKKR SAG Racing Team.  He currently owns the AS25 Academy Racing Team which races in the WIRA category in the Petronas Malaysian Cub Prix Championship.

The Perlis Customs seized 9 superbikes allegedly smuggled from Thailand into Malaysia.

The Customs Department of Malaysia’s Perlis state director, Tn. Ismail Hashim said the value of the seized motorcycles was RM416,500, while the estimated duties amounted to RM715,130.

“JKDM Perlis inspected 9 superbikes without registration at the entry lane of the Wang Kelian Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Post.”

Among the motorcycles seized included the Honda Honda CBR1000RR, BMW S 1000 RR, Yamaha YZF-R1, Aprilia RSV4 and MV Agusta. Seizure was carried out as there was no valid tax payment document and import permit.

“The modus operandi is by bringing in the motorcycles that were declared for competition use using lorries and allegedly headed to the Sepang International Circuit. Boon Siew Honda has just announced a new exciting colour for the 2024 Honda RS-X.

Honda dubs the new colour Mat Ion Blue Metallic. It gives the bike a fresh mid-life update: The new colour scheme makes the bike look stealthy, for want of a better word, compared to the previous offerings. It will be available in authorised and selected Honda dealers nationwide starting 22nd February 2024. The selling price of the 2024 Honda RS-X is RM9,798, without road tax, insurance and registration.

The RS-X continues to sell well in the country despite several reported “quirks.” It is mainly due to a pretty good performance courtesy of its 150cc, DOHC engine which produces 15.8hp (11.8kW) at 9,000 RPM and 13.6Nm of torque at 7,000 RPM. That power is channeled through a 6-speed gearbox. Anyone who has ridden the bike will tell you that it has a punchy low RPM acceleration that is great for urban riding. The engine is EURO 4 emission standard compliant, too.

Another selling point of the Honda RS-X is its design, which makes it look larger for a small bike. The Honda press release calls it “muscular.” This look is complemented with features that remain unchanged, such as the 1-channel Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS). 1-channel means it is only available on one wheel, in this case, the front. Hey, before criticising the system, let it be known that even bigger KTMs has a Supermoto feature to turn off the rear wheel’s ABS! Additionally, having ABS at least on one wheel is better than none at all.

Other features include LED lighting and digital speedometer.

The Modenas Ninja ZX-25R SE gets a fresh color choice for the new year: the captivating Metallic Phantom Silver X Ebony or also known as the Stormcloud Blue.

Following Japan’s lead, the Malaysian market also gets the same revamped aesthetics. While the Lime Green/Ebony option remains, the all-new 2024 Stormcloud Blue permanently replaces the Metallic Matte Graphenesteel Grey/Ebony variant.

The 2024 edition boasts a refined two-tone palette, featuring a Metallic Phantom Silver base with Ebony accents, subtly complemented by slate blue highlights. Throughout the bike, elements such as the trellis frame, mirrors, alloy wheels, seat, handlebars, grips, and exhaust cover sport an elegant black finish, offering a striking contrast.

The dominant matte silver hue is punctuated by a discreet black slash on the side fairing, housing a striking white ZX-25R decal at its core. Slate blue accents tastefully adorn various sections of the fairing, including the iconic Ninja logo positioned low on the belly side.

This latest addition to the lineup is scheduled to debut in dealer showrooms by the end of February 2024, and the new color option is priced at RM33,900.

As for the engine, the ZX-25R SE retains its formidable performance, featuring the same 250cc, liquid-cooled, inline-four engine delivering 46PS at 15,500rpm and 22Nm at 12,500rpm, without any new updates.

Edaran Modenas Sdn Bhd (EMOS), a subsidiary of Motosikal dan Enjin Nasional Sdn Bhd (MODENAS), and distributor of Kawasaki bikes in Malaysia, has launched fresh designs for the Kawasaki Z900 ABS, Kawasaki Z900 SE, offering Malaysian riders a wider array of options.

For starters, the Z900 SE is now available in two new colours – Metallic Spark Black and Metallic Matte Graphenesteel Gray. This is priced at RM55,900.

Down the price list is the Z900 ABS which is now available in Candy Persimmon Red and Ebony and is priced at RM44,900.

Both the Z900 and Z900 SE models come equipped with integrated riding modes, power mode selection, and three variations of KTRC traction control, ensuring a versatile riding experience.

The inclusion of an assist and slipper clutch, coupled with horizontal back-link rear suspension inspired by Kawasaki WorldSBK machinery, offers strong performance across all Z900 models.

For riders seeking elevated refinement, the Z900 SE offers striking gold-colored inverted forks and an Öhlins S46 rear shock with a remote preload adjuster.

The Z900’s updated color palette introduces a fresh Metallic Spark Black/Metallic Matte Dark Gray combination, alongside the classic Ebony/Metallic Matte Graphenesteel Gray option.

Additionally, the new Candy Persimmon Red/Ebony colorway injects vibrancy into the lineup, while the Z900 SE introduces a dynamic Metallic Spark Black/Metallic Matte Graphenesteel Gray/Candy Lime Green variant with a distinctive green frame. These models are now available in select dealer showrooms.

As this is just an aesthetics upgrade, there is no change in terms of the powertrain.

Just as a refresher, the Z900 is powered by a 948cc, four-stroke, four-cylinder, liquid cooled engine making 123.6hp and 98.6Nm of torque.
