Malaysia’s Minister of Transport, YB Anthony Loke said that at least one in thirteen heavy vehicle drivers were found to be positive for drugs.

He also said, “In the Commercial Vehicle Special Operation from August 1 to August 4, a total of 21 drivers were found positive for drugs as a result of the urine test screening of 276 commercial vehicle drivers.

“We do not compromise with drivers who are not competent in operating commercial vehicles and public transport,” he said.

Therefore, his ministry wants to reform Act 333 (Road Transport Act 1987) in order to include stricter punishments for drivers who drive under the influence of drugs.

This is because the existing law is not strict enough in punishing drivers who take drugs, because the suspect cannot be prosecuted if he is not involved in any accident.

However, said Loke, if a driver is tested positive for drugs during a roadblock operation, only his license will be be suspendedin accordance with Section 36.

“The ministry is currently in the process of amending Act 333 but we see that there is concern in the use of drugs by drivers of commercial vehicles and based on the current punishment, we do not want to wait for accidents to occur due to the behaviour of these drivers.

“So it is necessary for the ministry to stop the activity of taking drugs while driving and I myself will discuss further with ministry officials and legal officials to see this matter from a stricter legal aspect,” he said.

“I don’t accept the term casually taking drugs while driving, because the effect is the same as those who are drunk, i.e. they will hallucinate and can affect driving, including speeding.

“These people may be using drugs to stimulate long-distance driving,” he said.

Meanwhile, in the Special Integrated Operation of Tourism Vehicles and Public Service Vehicles (Tourist and Express Buses) held from 2nd to 31st July, a total of 19,456 vehicles have been subjected to action.

“Out of that number, 667 vehicles were prosecuted, with 14 of them confiscated.

“As a result of the inspection of 2,547 sightseeing and express bus drivers, a total of 26 drivers were also screened positive for drugs,” he said.

A group of resident bikers chased a hearse due to a misunderstanding. (Picture is for illustrative purpose only.)

A video recording of the incident has gone viral on the TikTok app. The video shows a group of residents in an area of Kajang chasing the hearse, because they wrongly believed that the driver had stolen it and was involved in a burglary case in the district.

Kajang District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof, said the 35-year-old man who was driving the hearse had made a report regarding the incident at 3.58pm yesterday.

@hmetromyVan jenazah yang dipandu laju dan dikejar sekumpulan lelaki bermotosikal sehingga tular di media sosial bukan dicuri atau terbabit kes pecah rumah seperti didakwa.♬ original sound – Harian Metro

“The man drove the hearse to a residential area in this district to be delivered to a mechanic, but got the wrong address. He had to drive slowly to find the correct location.

“His act of driving slowly caused a misunderstanding until he was stopped by a group of men who accused him of driving a stolen vehicle and being involved in burglary cases in the area,” he said in a statement today.

He said that the group of residents involved allegedly tried to attack and chased the man with wooden and metal weapons, causing the driver to flee with the hearse.

“A police check found that there was no report of missing hearse, and even the nazir of a mosque confirmed that he gave the van to the man to be repaired,” he said.

He said the case was investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal threats and Section 233 of the Multimedia Communications Act 1998, due to a viral video that caused annoyance to the public.

Naazron advises the public not to speculate or make untrue statements on social media, especially those that may cause confusion or disturb public order.

“Strict action will be taken against any individual who tries to spread false information and news,” he said.

The Ministry of Transport has issued an official statement saying that the B2 to Full B license transition program has been approved. It will start on October 1, 2024.

The B2 class license limits riders to motorcycles of no more than 250cc, a B1 class license limits riders to no more than 499cc, and a B class license (often referred to as ‘Full B’) allows riders to operate motorcycles of all sizes.

However, this transition of the Malaysian Driving License (LMM) for Motorcycles is subject to several conditions, including attending and passing the adaptation program for motorcycles 500cc and above at a driving institute.

As such, it does not mean that a motorcyclist who holds an existing class B1 or B2 license can convert it to class B class automatically.

The conditions are:
  • Individuals must have held B1 and B2 licenses for at least 10 consecutive years.
  • The applicant must be free from any blacklist, outstanding summons, transaction restrictions, record of conviction for similar offenses or any pending matter under Act 333. (Act 333 is under the supervision of the Road Transport Act 1987, regarding the offence of dangerous, reckless driving, and being under the influence of alcohol and drugs, and causing death or injury.)
  • Confirmation of healthy body, physical, and mind.
  • Attend and pass the transition and adaptation program for motorcycles 500cc and above at the driving institute. The program involves practical riding work, safe driving information and large motorcycle driving information for 2 hours.
  • And finally, confirmation of the ability to operate a large motorcycle by a Certified Training Officer at the driving institute.

The service charge for this program is RM160.

Apart from that, the B1 class motorcycle license will be combined with the B class.

Conditions:
  • There will no more programs for B1 license starting October 1, 2024.
  • Existing B1 license holders must undergo the transition program above if they wish to convert their license to class B.

There is a new colour called the Heavy Gray Metallic You colourway for the 2024 Honda Gold Wing Tour.

What else is there to say about the Honda Gold Wing except to throw superlatives at it? It is the bike that defines the luxury touring motorcycle. It may look ungainly, but ride it just once and you will fall in love with its engine’s smoothness and ease of controls. The comfort is a given: It is like your favourite IKEA leather couch on two wheels. You can stuff almost everything into its luggage cases. The Ducati Panigale V-Twin (or “L-Twin” as Ducati insists) seems to play a supporting role ever since the Panigale V4 was introduced in 2018. However, the V-Twin a.k.a. V2 still survives as it offers a more affordable and accessible alternative in the sub-1000cc category. But will it be phased out after this 2025 Ducati Panigale V2 Superquardro Final Edition?

The 2025 Ducati Panigale V2 Superquardro Final Edition (FE), it pays tribute to the the first Superquardro engine which made its debut with the Panigale 1199 in 2012. And of course, production is limited, to 555 units.

The FE’s livery was designed by the legendary Drudi Performance (who also designed some famous helmets including Valentino Rossi’s), featuring swooshing lines.

Underneath that fairing are some trick componentry including magnesium cylinder heads, clutch cover, and oil pan cover. The cylinder bores are Nikasil coated, while the rocker arms are DLC coated. The engine is housed in a monocoque frame, as before. The suite of electronic aids remain, of course, consisting of but not limited to traction control, wheelie control, Cornering ABS EVO, Ducati Quick Shift, engine brake control.

And there is Öhlins: front and rear suspension and steering damper. You will be stepping on billet aluminium Rizoma footpegs. Carbon fibre parts include front and rear mudguards, exhaust silencer cap, clutch cover protector (over the magnesium cover), swingarm cover, shock absorber cover. The battery is lithium-ion, and there are special handlebar grips, too. Speaking of handlebars, they are clipped onto a billet triple clamp where you can also find the bike’s serial number laser etched onto it.

There is also a special track kit for the 2025 Ducati Panigale V2 Superquardro Final Edition which consists tidy kits for the licence plate holder and mirrors, billet aluminium fuel tank cap, and GPS module for DDA data acquisition.

Ducati Malaysia did not reveal the price but overseas medias say it sells from USD 28,000 (RM 130,534.69). It will be available from October 2024.

Boon Siew Honda Sdn. Bhd. has launched the 2024 Honda NSS250, formerly known as the Forza 250 in Indonesia and Japan.
