BMW Motorrad Malaysia has finally brought in the latest 2020 BMW S 1000 RR into the Malaysian market, their latest superbike with great performance, supreme handling, and advanced riding technologies.
But wait, didn’t they introduce it already last year during MotoGP? Yes, but that was the M Sport Package priced at RM138,500. The 2020 BMW S 1000 RR is the base model with a more affordable price tag at RM116,500 (OTR price excluding insurance).
According to Harald Hoelzl, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia, “Every model in the BMW Motorrad portfolio is crafted with precision and tuned for the highest levels of performance, be it on the road or on the racetrack. The New BMW S 1000 RR is perfectly tuned for both as it raises the bar yet again with its new, formidable engine and sleek aerodynamic design. With the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations around the corner, we are pleased to introduce this second variant of the iconic Superbike here in Malaysia.”
As for Owen Riley, Head of BMW Motorrad Malaysia, he said, “Last year, we ended the year with over 100 new motorcycle owners within the Superbike segment in Malaysia, following a successful introduction of the BMW S 1000 RR M Package at the Malaysian leg of the MotoGP in November last year. This success has paved the way for our latest addition to the segment as it upholds the award-winning legacy of the iconic Superbike. Well-known as the King of the Isle of Man TT, we present the New BMW S 1000 RR variant.”
Rebuilt from the ground up, the 2020 BMW S 1000 RR features a leaner characteristic thanks to the newly designed fuel tank and seating area trim sections. Called the Flex Frame, the new BMW S 1000 RR provides even more support to the rider’s overall ergonomics whether you’re blasting down the straights or dragging your knees at the apexes.
So, why did it take BMW Motorrad Malaysia so long to bring in the standard BMW S 1000 RR? Well, the main factory in Munich was overflowing with orders for the M Package worldwide that they simply had to reduce the production numbers for the base model to meet with the demands. That’s also the reason why Malaysians got to witness the M Sport Package first during last year’s MotoGP round at Sepang.
Moving on, the standard BMW superbike comes with all the fixings of the M Sport Package model apart from motorsport paint, carbon fibre wheels, lightweight battery, M Chassis kit, sport seat and Pro Mode (this makes up for the RM22,000 price difference between the two variants).
Its most highlighted feature has to be the new 999cc inline-four engine which comes with the new BMW ShiftCam Technology that produces a whopping 207hp at 13,500rpm and 113Nm of maximum torque at 11,000rpm. This makes the superbike much more dynamic in all riding conditions.
Other specs include:
- 16.5-litre aluminium fuel tank
- Aluminium wheels
- New LED lights
- Four Riding Modes (Rain, Road, Dynamic & Dynamic Pro)
- BMW Motorrad Integral ABS
- HP Shift Assistant Pro
- Hill Start Control
- 6.5-inch TFT screen with Multi Controller
The bike is already available at all BMW Motorrad Malaysia authorised dealerships nationwide and customers can choose between two sexy colour schemes: Racing Red or Hockenheim Silver Metallic. The new S 1000 RR also comes with BMW Motorrad Malaysia’s All-New 3-Year Warranty and 3-Year Roadside Assistance Programmes.
