Asia Talent Cup rider Adam Norrodin announced as Zulfahmi Khairuddin’s replacement in Drive M7 SIC Moto3 team for 2016.
Shortly after the conclusion of the 2015 Shell Malaysian MotoGP, reports have confirmed that Shell Advance Asia Talent Cup rider Adam Norrodin will replace Zulfahmi Khairuddin in the Drive M7 SIC Moto3 team roster next year.
This is the Malaysian team’s second announcement of the weekend following a previous one where it announced the switch from KTM to Honda machines next year.
Sepang International Circuit (SIC) CEO, Datuk Razlan Razali, confirmed Adam’s appointment with local newswire Bernama. He added, “Adam will race in the World Moto3 Championship next year. We will also retain Czech rider Jakub Kornfeil as a result of his outstanding performance with us this year.”
Both Adam and Jakub have charted impressive performance this year, with Jakub landing the Drive M7 SIC team’s first podium finish during the British MotoGP whilst Adam have scored podium finishes in Sepang whilst competing in the Shell Advance Asia Talent Cup Moto3 series.
The news has undoubtedly ended the speculation surrounding who will replace Zulfahmi as the new national Moto3 rider for the Malaysian team. It has been a known fact that Zulfahmi’s stint in the World Moto3 Championship with the Drive M7 SIC team was agreed for one season only when the team was formed last year.
Nevertheless, Datuk Razlan insists that he and SIC will continue assisting Zulfahmi with his racing career. He added, “As a highly experienced racer, Zulfahmi will assist in nuturing other young racers competing Moto3, Asia Talent Cup, FIM CEV Repsol International Championship.”
Fresh from his podium finish in the season finale of the Shell Advance Asia Talent Cup 2015 series, Adam was clearly elated with the news. “I am very thankful of SIC for giving me this opportunity. My dream has always been to race in MotoGP. Although I am taking over Zulfahmi’s place, he will still help me when I finally enter the World Moto3 Championship next year.”
This is no doubt a huge step forward for Adam. Besides the two full seasons of the Shell Advance Asia Talent Cup under his belt, Adam has also garnered experiences with several stints in the FIM CEV Repsol International Championship earlier this year whilst competing for the Asia Talent Team.
