As previously reported, Ducati has finally unwrapped its new and updated-for-2014 Diavel supercruiser model just this week.
The new Diavel’s reveal at the on-going Geneva Motor Show does reflect on the Italian brand German owners Audi AG, but nevertheless, things look promising. Confirming our previous report, the updated cruiser now sports a very visible face-lift complete with new full-LED headlights, followed by the adoption of a new engine, and a new meaner-looking exhaust system.
Aesthecially, new bits on the outside include the bar-risers, radiator covers, seat, side-stand, followed by a refreshed instrumentation unit that now features a new fuel gauge. However, the icing on the cake for the exterior’s revamp are the full-LED headlamps and its housing, exuding a very streamlined and modern touch to the exterior’s aggressive naked-like styling.
Of course, the most substantial of changes with the new Diavel is its engine. The new model adopted Ducati’s new generation 1,198cc Testastretta 11° DS twin-spark V-twin engine as seen in the Multistrada. While the claimed peak power output of 162hp remains unchanged, Ducati states that the new twin spark (or dual spark) motor will offer improved mid-range torque delivery.
The new mill’s peak torque figure has increased slightly to 130Nm from its previous iteration’s 127Nm. Rounding things off in the powertrain department is the new exhaust system with restyled twin-slincer housings to match the aforementioned modern exterior retouches.
Three variants will be offered, starting with a base model that features a new ‘Dark Stealth” livery painting the trellis frame and wheels in black. Following this are two Diavel Carbon editions that weighs in at 205kg (5kg less than the base). In Carbon trim, it features either a red-painted frame with “Ducati Red” paintwork over matte carbon, or a “Star White” paintjob over matte carbon with a white-painted frame. Both Carbon trims also have black forged aluminium wheels by Marchesini offered as an option.
The new Diavel will be hitting European and American showrooms starting April this year. We hope that it would not take the brand too long to introduce it here on our soil within the year.
