MotoGP: Andrea Dovizioso gets first pole position after two years!

  • Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) will start today’s MotoGP round in the Czech Republic from pole position.

  • Movistar Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi pulled in a last minute flyer which puts him in P2.

  • Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda) will start his 100th premier class race in P3.

All eyes were on Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez as he set out to make a good show for his 100th premier class appearance in MotoGP. Too bad that Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso had to steal his limelight by storming through the qualifying session which will see him starting today’s Monster Energy Grand Prix of the Czech Republic in pole position.

This is indeed something Dovizioso will be celebrating about since his last pole position was during the Malaysian MotoGP in Sepang back in 2016! To make things even worse for Marquez, Movistar Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi pulled yet another surprise by jumping from last to second during the Q2 session.

Jorge Lorenzo (Ducati Team) managed to secure the first spot of the second row followed by Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda Castrol) and Lorenzo’s replacement in Ducati for the upcoming season, Danilo Petrucci (Alma Pramac Racing) in P6. Lorenzo’s performance in Q2 showed great promise and by the looks of things in the past six races, we will definitely see him leading a few laps and very possibly ending up on the podium.

Johann Zarco (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) seemed to get some of his grooves back after the summer break. Setting a respectable time of 1’55.221 (only 0.532 seconds behind Andrea Dovizioso), he will start today’s race in Row 3 in front of the Suzuki Ecstar dynamic duo, Andrea Iannone, and Alex Rins.

Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) completed the top 10 in Row 4 followed by Tito Rabat (Reale Avintia Racing) and surprisingly, Maverick Vinales (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP). Vinales and many other riders in Brno had a difficult time in getting a good setup for the bike according to the ever-changing track conditions.

As for our national hero, Hafizh Syahrin (Monster Yamaha Tech 3), he will start his first-ever MotoGP race in Brno from P16 ahead of Jack Miller (Alma Pramac Racing) and this round’s wildcard rider, Stefan Bradl (HRC Honda Team) in Row 6.

Today’s race will start with Moto3 at 5.00pm followed by Moto2 at 6.20pm and finally, MotoGP at 8.00pm (local times). Who’s your money on?
