This is something that no one wants to go through, especially with MotoGP planning to restart in three weeks’ time. Ducati’s lead rider, Andrea Dovizioso, shocked the world last night when news broke that he had sustained a broken collarbone during a motocross race in Faenza, Italy.
After suffering a crash during a motocross race in Faenza, @andreadovizioso has sustained a left collarbone injury. The Italian rider will be put into surgery later today after consulting with medical professionals to fix his injured left collarbone. It’ll be quite a show if Andrea Dovizioso is able to make it to the opening MotoGP round on 19 July 2020 in Jerez for the Gran Premio Red Bull de España.
When it comes to any injury involving the collarbone, a long period of time is need for it to completely heal. Three weeks might be enough for medical officials to deem him fit for the race, but 100% ready is definitely doubtful.
This also could not have come at a worse time as Dovizioso and Ducati is at a ‘stalemate’ in their discussions to continue racing together beyond 2020. Many rumours are floating around, including the possibility of recently retired, Jorge Lorenzo, coming out of retirement in the place of Dovizioso.
So far, Ducati has only signed one rider for the 2021 MotoGP season, Jack Miller. Sources have indicated that Dovizioso might be able to extend his contract with the Italian manufacturer beyond 2020, but things can quickly change in the span of a few weeks. Just look at KTM.
