Mugen Shinden Nana Isle of Man TT title defender launched

The Mugen Shinden Nana was launched at this year’s Isle of Man TT Zero title defender.

The seventh generation electric race machine has improved aerodynamics package as well as 162hp and 210mNm of torque.

Bruce Anstey, Lee Johnston, and John McGuinness will race the Mugen Shinden Nana at the end of May.

The 2018 Tokyo Motorcycle Show last week certainly brought more than a few surprises to those lucky enough to attend from all corners of the world. It seems that this year, Mugen is out and ready to make a huge impact, especially in the motorcycle universe with the unveiling of its 1,400cc V-twin engine called the MRV1400.

The racing division has also been upgraded with the official launch of the 2018 Mugen Shinden Nana electric race bike. Ready to defend its title at the Isle of Man TT 2018, this year’s team consists of three very talented riders which are Bruce Anstey, Lee Johnston, and the King of the Mountain, John McGuinness.

This year’s electric race machine is not that different from last year in terms of specifications. With its overall weight of 248kg, the new Shinden Nana  (seven in Japanese) is fitted with an oil-cooled, three-phase, brushless electric motor that produces 161hp and a massive 210Nm of torque.

Powering the TT Zero title defender is a 370V lithium-ion battery which the team hopes that it can finally break the 120mph (193km/h) average speed barrier around the Mountain Course.  This should be achievable thanks to a reworked aerodynamics package where Mugen designed a brand new front cowl for improved cooling as well as new side and rear cowls.

The question now is not whether the bike will win the 2018 Isle of Man TT Zero but more on whom. Between Anstey, Johnston, and McGuinness, your guess is just good as ours.
