Ducati Malaysia (Next Bike Sdn Bhd) expanded its Monster model line up for the Malaysian market earlier today, debuting the new Monster 796 Corse Stripe in its flagship PJ centre.
The new 796 is the latest incarnation of the iconic and popular Monster model, with this 796 Corse Tripe version designed to merge the user-friendliness of the 696 and the sporty nature of the manic 1100. The Monster 796 Corse Stripe is poised at bringing back the ‘mid-range magic’ into the Ducati Monster family.
In 796 form, the naked is powered using Ducati’s new generation air-cooled 796 Desmodue L-twin engine with twin exhaust pipes. Displacing 803cc, the mill develops 87hp @ 8,250rpm and maximum torque of 78Nm generated at 6,250rpm. Lightweight, compact and further primed with a lightweight crankshaft and crankcase, the mill is paired with a six-speed transmission that features the brand’s SPTC wet multi-plate ‘slipper’ type clutch.
The 796’s new powertrain is then housed in the model’s signature trellis frame. What’s new here are the front Kayaba forks, the weight-saving single-sided rear swingarm unit primed with an adjustable Sachs absorber, as well as revised rider ergonomics. Unlike its other siblings, the 796 Corse Stripe has a higher-positioned handlebar and a new seat design aimed at improving rider comforts.
By utilising weight-saving components and the single-sided swingarm, the Monster 796 Corse Stripe weighs in at an incredible 161kg dry. ABS brakes comes as standard and, as its name suggest, it will be offered in the striking Corse Stripe paintjob. Available as Thai-assembled CKD units, the Monster 796 Corse Stripe retails in Malaysia starting from RM63,888.
In conjunction with the new naked’s launch, Ducati Malaysia also announced the introduction of the Ducati Safety Course (DSC) rider training program for its Malaysian customers. The program’s first beginner course will be held this weekend at Ducati Malaysia’s flagship PJ outlet and it is opened exclusively for Malaysian Ducati owners and customers. However, a ‘mini’ version of the programme is also available for members of the public this Sunday and admission is free. The firm plans to host more DSC sessions in the Penang and Johor areas as well.
