“One state, one race circuit in 10 years” – Khairy Jamaluddin

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Khairy Jamaluddin has stated that they are developing a plan for one race circuit for every state in five to ten years.

The man in charge of the Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) made the announcement last weekend during the first round of the 2018 Malaysian Cub Prix.

Their current on-going project is the RM40million Pahang Motoring Sports Circuit in Jengka, Pahang.

During the first round of the 2018 Petronas AAM Malaysian Cub Prix, the Minister of Youth and Sports Khairy Jamaluddin has announced the Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) will focus on building a proper racing circuit in each state as part of their five to 10-year plan.

The announcement was made last weekend in Tangkak, Johor where he attended the national racing event. As more and more people are getting into motorsports especially the younger generation, this initiative will help many young talents develop their racing skills the proper way in order to get them ready for international competitions.

The initiative was also announced considering the number of spectators who attend the races especially MotoGP at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC). It seems that the Youth and Sports Ministry is finally paying more attention to our local motorsport scenes especially this year where four of our very own home-grown riders are competing in every category of MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3.

The government’s latest project on building the Pahang Motoring Sports Circuit in Jengka, Pahang consists of a 2.4km race track that’s able to seat 2,000 attendees at a cost of RM40 million. This trend will then continue into other states in Malaysia in the next 10 years where hopefully, there will be a proper race track in every state.

This will help to ensure both riders and fans have the proper venues and channels to fuel their need for motorsports here in the country. Apart from the race track, KBS has been allocating around RM15 million to help with the development of motorsports through programs like the National Motor Sports Development Programme.

Their presence in the 2018 Petronas AAM Malaysian Cub Prix especially in the WIRA category is also another indicator of how KBS is supporting the local racing scene. Looks like the future of Malaysian motorsports is looking brighter, folks. Let’s hope this trend will continue to soar upwards.
