Rumours of a possible Petronas Yamaha MotoGP team in 2019 have been circulating very recently.
This new Yamaha satellite team is said to contract Hafizh Syahrin together with Jorge Lorenzo.
This new team will help MotoGP to solve a few issues they are currently facing at the moment.
There have been many rumours going around the MotoGP paddock but this particular news might be the biggest one yet, especially to fellow Malaysians. It seems that there might be a possibility of Malaysia running its own MotoGP squad after all in 2019 as a Yamaha satellite team.
According to a number of reliable sources, it seems that SIC (Sepang International Circuit) are looking for a way to retain national rider Hafizh Syahrin in the MotoGP 2019 season. More importantly, they’re trying their best to make sure that his 2019 ride would be the Yamaha M1.
We know for a fact that SIC officials went for the Jerez round to conduct talks with Dorna, teams, and even Yamaha but the results of the discussions were never revealed. After the latest round in France, some media members have indicated that Yamaha might just run a satellite team next year. The only question is who will be the main sponsor?
Sources have stated that Petronas might step in as the main sponsor and together with Yamaha, they might be able to bring in Jorge Lorenzo as their second rider. Considering his poor performance over at Ducati, the five-time World Champion might exit early in order to get back on Yamaha machinery where he won three MotoGP titles with.
The possibility of a Yamaha satellite team sponsored by Petronas and SIC will indeed solve a few problems MotoGP is currently facing. This particular squad will assist in things like:
- Ducati will find a better rider for their ever-evolving Ducati Desmosedici GP
- Jorge Lorenzo gets back on a Yamaha which perfectly suits his riding style
- Hafizh Syahrin retains his MotoGP seat for 2019
- A new team to replace Marc VDS which has been said to stop their MotoGP efforts at the end of the season
As of now, these are merely rumours which have not been confirmed by any party just yet. The MotoGP paddock is currently in Mugello and hopefully, more news will come out to confirm this theory of ours.
