Malaysian wildcard rider Zaqhwan Zaidi made the nation proud today after successfully qualifying seventh for the World Supersport (WSSP) race tomorrow.
The 19-year-old, fresh from his victory in Cub Prix last weekend, showed good pace since Friday. A quick chat with the Malaysian hopeful revealed that he and the team are indeed ‘on-track’ towards meeting their target (read our interview from Friday with Zaqhwan and coach Shahrol Yuzy here).
At one point, the Zaqhwan was high up as fifth in the timing board before the last grid’s regular riders went out on their last minute stints to improve their times. His best time of 2:09.552 is just 1.221 seconds off the category’s pole position time set by French rider Julez Cluzel who was astride a MV Agusta F3 675 WSSP race bike.
Zaqhwan will start on the second row of the grid for the race tomorrow.
