New dedicated website and feature video previews next generation Honda DCT technology for bikes.
It is no secret that the Honda DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission) stands one of the most revolutionary pieces of technology currently fielded in bikes. Honda was the first bike maker to introduce the transmission into a production bike, and it looks set to become the first to use it in a superbike as well. (Read our initial rumour report here)
The firm recently setup a new website dedicated in enlightening people about its technology and published the featured video above. The short film depicts what it would probably be like to ride a bike equipped with the Honda DCT gearbox, with much of the stylised film highlighting the ease of riding and the endless possibilities it promises.
Putting the gimmick aside, it is easy to see that Honda is really on to something here with its DCT technology. Dual-clutch or twin-clutch transmissions have contributed towards increased efficiency and reduced emissions in cars, but we reckon bikes would benefit more from the former. With the new Honda DCT website though, Honda intends to send the message of this technology much clearer.
Putting into perspective of bikes, DCTs offer quicker shift times and improved emissions as it is much quicker in its operation as opposed to a regular manual. This is something many have already experiences in some of Honda’s bikes like the VFR1200F, NM4 Vultus, NC700X, CTX700 and, more recently, the all-new Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin adventure bike.
And if recent rumours are to be believed, Honda is aiming to field its DCT technology into its next generation superbikes and perhaps adopting it into its MotoGP program as well. Honda does remain coy about its targeted date and time frame to get its DCT technology implemented in its performance models. Hoever, given the fact that the Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade is due for replacement soon, we could probably see its replacement stand as the first production superbike to feature the Honda DCT.
