Both Aruba.it Racing team riders scored one podium spot individually
It was a great day filled with drama and events especially for WorldSBK rider Jonathan Rea in Round Two of the 2017 Motul FIM Superbike World Championship. After finishing on top in Race 1 yesterday, the Kawasaki Racing Team rider continued his assault with another victory in Race 2 making a total of four straight victories for the 30 year old Brit rider.
The second race was red flagged earlier due to a major crash from Lorenzo Savadori from the Milwaukee Aprilia outfit in Turn 12 which left debris in the middle of the track. The race was quickly restarted after the track was cleared but the disruption did not affect Rea whatsoever.
In Race 1, Rea walked away from the rest of the field and ended up winning with a gap of 6.279 seconds ahead of Aruba.it Racing team rider, Chaz Davies. Davies came in second in Race 1 and sixth in Race 2 on board his Ducati 1199 Panigale R. In Race 2, the gap was slightly smaller but still managed to end the race 4.078 seconds in front of team mate, Tom Sykes.
Positive results were also obtained by Sykes who scored podium finishes in both races who placed third in Race 1 and second in Race 2. It was the other Aruba.it Racing team rider, Marco Melandri who snatched the final podium spot in Race 2 with just 0.117 seconds behind Sykes. Sykes managed to steal away P2 from Melandri in a daring last lap manoeuvre on the Italian rider. Melandri performed well in the first race with a finish in fourth spot.
With the results obtained at the Chang International Circuit this weekend, Jonathan Rea sits on top of the leader board with a perfect score of 100 giving him an advantage of 30 points ahead of the number two rider in the standings, Chaz Davies. Tom Sykes is not far behind with 62 points and Alex Lowes sits comfortably in fourth with 49 points in total.
The riders will return to action on 31 March 2017 for the third WorldSBK round in Aragón. Stay tuned to Bikes Republic for more updates.
