Berjaya Sompo Champions Safer Riding and Talent Development Through Motorsport Sponsorship

As part of its commitment to fostering safety education for motorcyclists, Berjaya Sompo Insurance is proud to support the development of future talent in motorcycle sport racing through its sponsorship of Hong Leong Yamaha Malaysia’s racing activities.

The co-sponsorship of the Yamaha 135LC Tekhne Challenge in the PETRONAS MAM Malaysian Cub Prix underbone category in 2022 has helped elevate several local talents, paving the way for them to progress to higher levels. Several riders who performed well in the series have gone on to compete in the Berjaya Sompo Yamaha Y16ZR Race Masterclass Series in the MAM Malaysia Superbike Championship. Some have even progressed to compete at the Asian level.

With a strong commitment to social responsibility, Berjaya Sompo Insurance believes that proper training and competing on the right platforms are essential for developing professional local talent. In collaboration with trusted partners, Berjaya Sompo Insurance aims to provide aspiring racers with a safe and controlled environment to refine their skills. This support not only helps them grow as athletes but also emphasises the importance of responsible riding, both on and off the track.

Furthermore, the company’s commitment extends beyond talent development. Berjaya Sompo Insurance is equally passionate about promoting safe and responsible riding at all levels. The company remains dedicated to fostering future champions while advocating for the responsible use of motorcycles.

Berjaya Sompo Insurance is deeply concerned about the high accident rate among motorcyclists in Malaysia. According to the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS), motorcyclists account for about 60% of road accidents in Malaysia.

In order to combat this and lower the alarming statistics, Berjaya Sompo Insurance believes in educating riders about responsible racing and encourages motorcyclists to practise their riding skills in safe, regulated environments—particularly on proper racing tracks, where injuries can be significantly reduced or prevented.

Safety starts at home, and Berjaya Sompo Insurance acknowledges this. To ensure that safe riding habits are ingrained from the beginning, the company has introduced an initiative called The Good Riders. This platform is dedicated to sharing valuable information on motorcycle care, safety awareness, and financial security, empowering riders to make safer choices even before they get on a motorcycle. Additionally, Berjaya Sompo Insurance is focused on motorcyclists’ overall welfare and is arguably the only insurance provider to engage directly with motorcyclists. This commitment was showcased when the company participated in the Dewi Yamaha Malaysia Fiesta Ride Smart, Ride Selamat 2024 event.

The event attracted over 1,010 women bikers, who also gathered to celebrate International Women’s Day, earning a place in the Malaysia Book of Records for the Largest Female Bikers Event. Berjaya Sompo Insurance engaged the community by prioritising road safety with an exclusive Group Personal Accident insurance offering and encouraged riders to download and sign up for coverage through the MySOMPO roadside assistance app.

Moreover, Berjaya Sompo Insurance actively engages with local motorcycling communities by participating in local events, the most notable being the recent Yamaha GenBlu Carnival, which is the largest motorcycle gathering, recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records.

Through its multi-strategy approach, it is clear that Berjaya Sompo Insurance is committed to improving the safety of motorcyclists both on and off the road, while also promoting safety from the comfort of one’s home, making it an insurance provider that is focused on rider safety while offering exceptional personal coverage.
