14 months jail time for popping a wheelie?

21-year-old Adzrul Adzman received one hell of a sentence by the Magistrate Court earlier this week for popping a wheelie on public roads. The sentence? 14 months jail time AND an RM5,000 fine or another two months added to the jail time if the youngster is not able to cough up the fine.

According to a report posted by Daily Express, the Magistrate Court found him guilty for ‘reckless driving’ where the offence was perpetrated at Jalan Kota Kinabalu-Papar on 12 August 2019 at around 1.20am.

Five witnesses produced by the traffic prosecuting officer claimed that Adzrul did indeed committed the stunt. In his defense? Adzrul stated that he was only ‘testing’ the machine after repairing it. On the road. At 1.20am. Right…

It turns out that the defendant was also found guilty for participating in an illegal road race back in June 2018 where he was fined RM1,500. That’s a slap on the wrist compared to the 14-month prison sentence and RM5,000 fine for popping a wheelie. What do you guys think? Too harsh? Is community service a better option?
