FASTrack Iskandar Sdn Bhd (FASTrack Iskandar) officially unveiled their new international track design at the Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia Studios.
FASTrack Iskandar has officially launched their new track design last Tuesday dubbed “Fastrackcity”. The official launch was held at the glorious Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia Studios in Iskandar Puteri, Johor. We were privileged to be invited to attend the ceremony by one of the key figures in this monumental project, UEM Sunrise Berhad.
The track design launch was officiated by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak. The chairman of FASTrack Iskandar, HRH The Crown Prince of Johor, Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, was present as well to witness the proceedings.
This premier motorsports city will be a major project indeed as the new track will be an FIA Grade 1 and also FIM Grade A international circuit. This means that Fastrackcity is able to conduct high profile races like Formula 1, MotoGP and also WSBK.
The great mind who was in charge of the track design is none other than renowned track designer, Hermann Tilke. Tilke has designed some of the most exciting and challenging tracks all over the world. His portfolio includes Sepang International Circuit (SIC), Circuit of the Americas (COTA), Nürburgring and Hockenheimring.
The track will indeed be exciting and challenging as it has 15 turns throughout its 4.45km length. In the main straights, racing machines are able to hit speeds well over 300km/h while going through sweeping corners and elevation changes as well.
To make sure things will stay exciting in this ultra-modern race venue in the distant future, the track will feature seven different configurations, three full track configurations , three north track configurations and one south track configuration. Fastrackcity also has night lighting facility which allows races to be conducted at night like how the major races are run in Qatar.
Fastrackcity will also have a few other exciting additions for all motorsports enthusiasts like a specially designed Hill Climb Track, a 1.5km CIK Grade A International Kart Circuit and even an Advanced Handling Park for road safety training and courses. It is definitely a track that has something for everyone.
The duty-free circuit will also include world-class integrated facilities like the Auto Vault, AutoHub and Speed Gallery. The Auto Vault is a high security parking facility and the AutoHub is a series of automotive workshops located within the race track itself. The Speed Gallery is where you will find automotive showrooms, eateries and specialty retail outlets for all visitors.
Fastrackcity has been dubbed “The Nürburgring of Asia” by its designer, Hermann Tilke himself. He also said “This is one of the most exciting motorsports concepts I have even been invited to work with. I truly believe that we can build a unique track for motorsports entertainment.”
Mr Barry Kan, the Director of FASTrack Iskandar stated “It has taken FASTrack Iskandar much time and effort to arrive at the finalized design and concept of this lifestyle development. We are excited that we are one step closer to developing Asia’s premier fully-integrated motorsports facility which will be go-to destination for the region’s motorsports enthusiasts!”
Mr Anwar Syahrin Abdul Ajib, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of UEM Sunrise, stated “This joint venture is a true reflection of synergistic efforts that lead to a winning collaboration. Leveraging the espertise and resources of both FASTrack Autosports and UEM Sunrise, when completed, Fastrackcity will not only create businesses and jobs, but also further cement Iskandar Puteri’s position as a desired destination for leisure, recreation as well as strategic investments.”
Fastrackcity is expected to be in full completion and operational by the year 2019. We truly believe that this amazing track will change Johor to the new hub of motorsports in the region.
