The World Superbikes Championship (WSBK) looks set to run its 2014 season with several changes in its calendar. Amongst the changes were two new venues added, one of it being Malaysia.
According to the provisional calendar released not too long ago, WSBK is scheduled to race in Malaysia on June 8. At present, it is still subject to a contract. But if it is green-lit, it will mark WSBK’s first ever race in the Sepang International Circuit, and the series’ only South East Asian venue for 2014.
SIC CEO Datuk Razlan Razali recently stated to the press that the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) management team are looking into catering the growing interest for two-wheeled racing amongst Malaysians. He also confirmed that plans were underway for the circuit to host another world championship motorcycle racing event and this could be it.
If all goes well, we should have confirmed reports within the coming weeks or months. We reckon that WSBK would be warmly received in Malaysia if it gets the go ahead.
