BMW Motorrad Malaysia is running a special service campaign for all BMW R1200 GS and R1200 GS Adventure models.

All BMW R1200GS models manufactured from November 2013 to June 2017 are advised to participate in the service campaign due possible preliminary damages to the front forks.

All affected models will have their owners informed by BMW Motorrad Malaysia to participate in the special service campaign.

There has been a lot of news going around the globe informing us that there’s a ‘recall’ from BMW Motorrad regarding two of their flagship adventure models, the BMW R1200 GS and R1200 GS Adventure. The news spreading online point to the motorcycles that were manufactured between November 2013 and June 2017.

It is however not a recall but a service campaign organised by BMW Motorrad to tackle and mend some issues concerning the front forks of the stated models. Based on observations made in the field, possible damages can be obtained from high stress incidents to the front fork tubes due to “unusual incidents with momentary high stress without the user noticing the damage, e.g. through changed drivability. Such high stress can be caused e.g. when driving over an obstacle, during a fall or when driving through deep potholes with unvarying speed.”

Those models which are affected by this issue are said to source from a manifested gap between the fork tubes and top seal plugs. There’s also a chance that the front wheel might be suffer damages as well but the chances of that happening are much smaller.

BMW Motorrad Malaysia spoke to us regarding this matter and we can confirm that they will contact all the affected owners as soon as possible. This issue does not affect all models but BMW Motorrad Malaysia is organising this service campaign to make sure that the bikes are in perfect condition for uninterrupted riding experiences.

HOWEVER, we’ve been informed that the models which were not imported via BMW Motorrad Malaysia have higher chances of being affected by this issue and the best advice now is to get it checked as soon as possible. ‘Grey import’ bikes are more likely to suffer from said issue to the front fork and are advised to contact BMW Motorrad officials for further details.

Take note, grey import bikes owners. There might be a minor ‘localisation fee’ to get your bikes registered and serviced at authorised BMW Motorrad service centres. For peace of mind, just send your beloved bikes to any of the authorised BMW Motorrad service centres to get everything sorted out. Safety first, folks. You can never be too careful.
