Willem Heijboer dreamt about turning his BMW K1600GT into a GS, but as he started grinding out the engine case, he realised he might not be able to get the job done.

He then reached out to Dutch bike builder expert, Nico Bakker where he specifically told him that he wants the K1600GT to feature the same handling, litheness and looks as the GS but most importantly, it could handle the power from the inline-six K1600 engine.

Bakker then used the K1600GT as a base and retained the engine, shaft drive, 320mm brakes disc, Brembo callipers, Bosch ABS and electronics, including the ESA.

However, to emulate the rigidity and stiffness to accommodate the K1600 engine, Bakker custom built the frame using chrome-moly steel tubing and extended the wheelbase from 1618mm to 1635mm.

He also had to sharpen the steering geometry, but to do so, Bakker ditched the Telelever front in place of a fully adjustable 48mm WP fork.

The complete the GS look, the K16 is fitted with 19″ front, and 17″ rear spoke wheels.

Bakker also fitted the bike with a 6-into-2 exhaust with custom twin carbon-wrap silencers.

Interestingly, Heijboer already took the custom build K1600GS for long-distance touring and even to a track day just to test out the handling.

Ducati has issued a recall on a small batch of Hypermotard 950 due to a faulty kickstand.

According to the recall documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), some of the kickstands on the 2019 Hypermotard 950 may not be adequately welded.

The improper weld could affect the reliability of the side stand and may break at the weld that joins the tube to the part at the top, resulting in a fall and increasing the risk of injury.

The document suggests that the recall affected 205 units of the Hypermotard 950 manufactured between January 7 2010, and March 29, 2019.

Modenas has launched three new colour options for the Pulsar NS200 ABS motorcycle.

The new Pulsar NS200 ABS is now available in Plasma Blue, Burnt Red, and Pewter Grey paint scheme with matte finishes. The wheels also feature an all-white colour.

However, with over 8,000 units sold since its launch in 2017, the popular street bike continues to deliver the same technical specification.

As a result, the Pulsar NS200 continue to set the benchmark as the most affordable 200cc motorcycle equipped with an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and capable of delivering 24hp and 18Nm.

Despite the colour upgrade, the Modenas Pulsar NS200 ABS continue to be priced at RM9,655 (exclude road tax and insurance) and will be available at every Modenas dealership beginning October.

During the first DGR that took place in September 2014, the Triumph-sponsored DGR saw a participation of around 20,000 bikers in over 58 countries.

The gathering saw a total of USD1.5mil collected in its first year before raising over USD2.3mil the following year.

 

Route 77 Harley-Davidson of Kuala Lumpur has kickstarted a Covid-19 emergency relief fund campaign for the whole month of October.

The relief fund campaign will begin on the 1st of October and continue to run until the end of the month.

According to Route 77 Harley-Davidson of Kuala Lumpur, the initiative will benefit several charities within Klang Valley.

“During this trying time and the pandemic largely affecting the economy and the livelihood of many, we would like to take the opportunity to help those who are in need.

“This is now a time for us to give back to the community,” said Sterz Yap, General Manager of Route 77 Harley-Davidson of Kuala Lumpur.

All proceeds collected from the sales at Route 77 Harley-Davidson of Kuala Lumpur will be allocated towards the Covid-19 fund.

The funds will then be distributed to charities in the form of monetary value.

Meanwhile, customers who walk into Route 77 H-D of Kuala Lumpur can also book a test ride for the all-new Harley-Davidson Pan America.

Team Green finally lifted the cover off the all-new middle-weight retro motorcycle, the Kawasaki Z650RS.

Injecting the same retro DNA from the Z900RS that was introduced back in 2018, the Z650RS also features the reliable parallel-twin 649cc engine found on Z650 and Ninja 650.

The twin-engine was re-tuned for low and mid rev response but continue to deliver 67hp @ 8,000rpm and 65.7Nmm @ 6,500rpm.

Like its Z650 and Ninja 650 cousin, the Z650RS is equipped with the same 41mm front fork and horizontal link rear shock with preload-adjustable.

Braking is done by a dua twin-piston front callipers clamping on a 300mm disc while governed by a dual-channel Bosch ABS.

Other features include:

  • 820mm seat height
  • full LED light setup
  • classic analogue dial with digital display

According to Kawasaki, the Z650RS is available from GBP7,549 (RM43k) in the UK.
