The New-Gen Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R & ZX-4R Screamer Is Coming To Malaysia In 2024

Two icons of two-wheeled exhilaration are poised to ignite the Malaysian motorcycle scene as Edaran Modenas Sdn Bhd (EMOS), the official distributor of Kawasaki motorcycles in the country, unveils an electrifying announcement: the all-new Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R and the eagerly-awaited Ninja ZX-4R are set to make their thunderous debut on Malaysian roads in 2024.

Roslan Roskan, Chief Executive Officer of Modenas, disclosed that the 2024 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R is charging its way to Malaysian shores during the recently concluded Kawasaki X Modenas Green Mania held at Gamuda Cove, Dengkil.

The Ninja ZX-6R flaunts its remarkable prowess after a comprehensive update to meet the stringent Euro5 homologation standards. Riding in tandem with the ZX-6R is the enigmatic Ninja ZX-4R, an exciting newcomer poised to carve its own niche in the world of high-performance motorcycles.

The spotlight shines brightest on the 2024 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R, a testament to Kawasaki’s relentless pursuit of perfection. The centerpiece of this superbike is its reinvigorated 636cc liquid-cooled engine, meticulously tuned and tested to meet Euro5 standards—a remarkable achievement that sets it apart from its rivals, the Yamaha R6 and Honda CBR600RR. Not content with just compliance, Kawasaki engineers have pushed the boundaries, subjecting the engine to rigorous testing to ensure it surpasses expectations.

The Ninja ZX-6R’s update isn’t just under the hood; it boasts an array of advanced features that elevate its performance and rider experience. Showa’s Separate Function Big Piston Forks enhance handling, while a quickshifter and three-mode traction control system provide riders with unparalleled control. Multiple power modes and riding modes allow for personalised experiences, and a 4.3″ TFT dash with smartphone connectivity keeps riders informed and engaged, even while on the move.

Meanwhile, the spotlight also falls on the daring Ninja ZX-4R, a pocket rocket powered by an all-new 399cc inline-four, water-cooled 4-stroke DOHC engine. Capable of a heart-pounding 79.1hp with Ram-Air, this compact powerhouse delivers excitement in abundance. Boasting a rev limit exceeding 15,000rpm, the ZX-4R inherits the DNA of its sibling, the ZX-25R, and shares the same trellis frame, showcasing Kawasaki’s commitment to innovation.

The suspension prowess of the Ninja ZX-4R is equally notable, thanks to Showa’s SFF-BP forks at the front and a horizontal back-link at the rear. Distinguishing the variants is the suspension package: the base model features SFF-BP forks, while the SE and RR boast front forks with preload adjustment. The RR, in particular, enjoys the Showa BFRC-lite rear shock, a nod to its high-performance lineage.

Technological wizardry is in full force with the Ninja ZX-4R, featuring all-LED lighting, Kawasaki Traction Control (KTRC), and an array of four power modes catering to varying riding conditions. The SE and RR versions elevate the experience with a two-way quickshifter and a 4.3-inch LCD color display replete with an integrated ‘Track Mode.’

Underneath its sleek exterior, the OAO Pro houses a mid-mounted electric motor with a nominal output of 5k, peaking at 10kW during overtaking manoeuvres. These figures, while modest on paper, translate into an exhilarating and responsive ride experience thanks to its continuous power delivery. A 72-volt, 90-ampere-hour battery pack fuels the motor, benefiting from regenerative braking for efficient charging.

With a top speed of 60 miles per hour, the OAO Pro strikes a balance between urban commuting practicality and sporty dynamics. A manual transmission with four gears preserves the spirited feel of traditional sportbikes, catering to riders seeking an engaging ride.

Weighing in at a nimble 164kg and featuring a low seat height of 780 millimeters, the QJ Motor OAO Pro offers accessibility to riders of varying statures.

Meanwhile, ABS-equipped brakes and LED lights ensure safety, while an LCD instrument cluster, complete with a convenient USB socket, keeps riders well-informed during their journey.

Yamaha Unveils Thrilling Yamaha Y15ZR Special Edition – RM9,498

Revving up the excitement, Hong Leong Yamaha Motor (HLYM) introduces the captivating Yamaha Y15ZR Special Edition (SE). This stunning model boasts a fresh, trailblazing color and an exclusive aero kit, guaranteeing a sportier and more dynamic appearance.

Available at authorized Yamaha dealers nationwide starting August 15, 2023, the Yamaha Y15ZR SE is priced at RM9,498 (excluding registration fees and insurance coverage).

AW is a relatively unknown name that has recently stepped into the spotlight by unveiling its inaugural offerings – the 500 N and 500 R motorcycles in China.

Although a newcomer, AW has quickly captured attention since its debut at a trade fair in China back in 2021. The brand’s debut models, the 500 N and 500 R, share a common platform but boast distinct styling elements.

Both motorcycles are powered by engines sourced from Chinese manufacturer Loncin, presenting a parallel-twin configuration reminiscent of Honda’s renowned engine architecture.

Performance-wise, the AW 500 series packs a punch with a commendable 45 horsepower output, placing it on par with other contenders in the entry-level segment. Weighing in at a manageable 186 kilograms, these bikes offer an accessible riding experience suitable for a diverse range of riders.

Setting itself apart, AW has equipped the 500 N and 500 R models with premium underpinnings. The front suspension features adjustable inverted forks, while the rear employs an adjustable link-type shock. Braking capabilities are enhanced with dual disc brakes boasting radially mounted four-piston calipers.

In sync with modern trends, AW’s new offerings embrace technology with a sizable full-color display, hinting at possible Bluetooth connectivity. The two models diverge in their aesthetics – the 500 R embracing a traditional fully-faired sportbike design, while the 500 N takes cues from premium modern classics, infusing sporty angles with a touch of retro flair.

However, beneath its unconventional appearance lies a modest 124cc single-cylinder engine generating a humble 8hp and 7.2Nm of torque. This engine, paired with a scooter-inspired CVT transmission, ensures an easy and convenient riding experience, ideal for those new to motorcycling.

With a low seat height of just 65 centimeters and a featherweight 113-kilogram build, the Yomi 125 offers approachability for riders of all statures. The model’s affordability adds to its appeal, with a price tag of just CNY9,800 (RM6.2k).

While the Zongshen Yomi 125’s quirky design and affordability could attract a following among young riders in China, it seems that the manufacturer has no plans to introduce this unique mini chopper-inspired scooter to international markets.

Though the Yomi 125 may not revolutionize the motorcycling world, its blend of unconventional styling, ease of use, and affordability could serve as a stepping stone for novices, inviting them to explore the world of two-wheeled transportation.
