87 Percent of Motorcycle Accidents Caused by Other Road Users

A study conducted by the Vehicle Theft and Accident Reduction Council (VTREC) found that 70% of road accidents involve motorcycles. However, only 13% of these accidents are caused by the motorcyclists themselves, while 87% are caused by other vehicle drivers.

Of these motorcycle accidents involving other vehicles:

67% are caused by private vehicles, and
20% are caused by commercial vehicles.

Motorcyclists and pillion riders are the most vulnerable road users. On average, 6,000 road users are killed annually, with 4,200 (70%) being motorcyclists.

According to VTREC Coordinator Ms. Mas Tina Abdul Hamid, statistics show that motorcycle accidents are 12 times more frequent than car accidents.

“Motorcyclists are often blamed when accidents occur, but we have learned that car drivers need to improve their road safety awareness and require education on defensive driving,” she added.

“The annual fatality rate remains alarming. The number of yearly accident-related deaths could fill graves requiring space equivalent to six football fields.”

“On average, one road user is killed every 80 minutes.”

“Human error is the primary cause of road crashes, contributing to eight out of the 10 factors behind traffic accidents,” Mas Tina emphasized.

The vehicle insurance industry recorded 266,716 accident claims in 2024, an 11% decline compared to 299,657 cases in 2023.

Despite retaining the same engine as its predecessor, the new motorcycle has been extensively reworked and has a whole list of new features. As such, it is considered all-new.

The all-new 2025 BMW R 12 nineT retains the unmistakable power and character of the iconic boxer engine, combined with the timeless appeal of traditional motorcycles, all while offering extensive modularity for personalisation. At the heart of the bike is a newly developed tubular bridge steel spaceframe, which eliminates the need for previous fastenings, resulting in a lighter structure and a cleaner, more classic look. The rear frame, also crafted from tubular steel, is seamlessly bolted to the main frame.

The aluminium fuel tank, with brushed and clear-coated side panels, along with the seat and tail-hump, form a dynamic, rising line that accentuates the bike’s sleek profile. The upside-down fork provides both a sleek look and superior handling, while the radial brake calipers and twin-disc front brake ensure powerful stopping performance. Other distinctive features, such as the chrome-plated header and 17-inch cast light-alloy wheels, enhance its bold character. For improved ergonomics, the rider’s position is slightly closer to the handlebars, allowing for better knee contact and a more front-oriented seating stance. Two analogue round instruments display the speed and RPM, with a USB-C port on the left side and a 12V socket on the right side.

The powerhouse of the All-New BMW R 12 nineT is a 1,170cc water-cooled, 2-cylinder, 4-stroke Boxer engine, which delivers an impressive 109 hp (80kW) at 7,000 RPM and 115 Nm of torque at 6,500 RPM, with seamless power delivery through a 6-speed claw-shift gearbox and hydraulically operated dry clutch. Accelerating from 0-100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds, the All-New BMW R 12 nineT is capable of a top speed exceeding 200 km/h, with fuel consumption at 5.1 l/100km (WLTP).

The All-New BMW R 12 nineT is equipped as standard with a comprehensive set of features designed to enhance safety on the ride. These include Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) system for stability and control in various road conditions and BMW Motorrad ABS Pro for superior braking performance even at lean angles. On the other hand, LED Headlights and Daytime Riding Light ensure clear visibility, while the adaptive Headlight Pro system automatically adjusts to lighting conditions, offering superior illumination whether riding in bright daylight or low-light environments.

2025 BMW F 900 XR Arrives in Malaysia

The 2025 BMW F 900 XR has arrived in Malaysia, with a nett selling price of RM82,500.

The BMW F 900 XR is the sport-tourer variant in the F 900 family, while the F 900 GS is the adventure type, and the F 900 R is the roadster.

Along with several visual and technical upgrades, BMW Motorrad says that the bike “delivers he perfect balance of performance and versatility for those seeking dynamic handling and long-distance comfort.”

Highlights

New torsionally rigid, upside-down telescopic forks with 43mm diameter slider tubes.
Rebound and compression damping, as well as spring preload are now adjustable.
New, 17-inch cast aluminium wheels weigh 1.8 kg less compared to the predecessor, which in combination with 0.8 kg lighter battery, contributes to an overall weight reduction of 3 kg for the model.

The addition of an engine spoiler serves to further accentuate the performance-oriented nature and improves overall aerodynamic efficiency.

Indian Motorcycle Returns to Malaysia

The other US motorcycle make, and no less famous, is Indian Motorcycle and they return to Malaysia.

The brand is now under the the umbrella of Spirit Lake Motor Sdn. Bhd., who are themselves a subsidiary of AFY Mobility Industries who are also the official distributor of Suzuki and MODA motorcycles.

Although the website lists all of the maker’s models, three are currently available:

Indian Motorcycle is one of the oldest motorcycle brands, even pre-dating the other US motorcycle brand. Indian began in 1901 as Hendee Manufacturing Company, based in Springfield, Massachusetts. It name was subsequently changed to Indian Motorcycle Company in 1923.

The manufacturer came to prominence in the 1911 Isle of Man Tourist Trophy race, becoming the very first maker to win all first three places.

However, the company stopped operating in 1953.

In 2011, Polaris Industries acquired the brand and marketed it side-by-side with their own existing brand, Victory. Victory was later dropped as Polaris concentrated all resources on Indian.

New Colours for the 2025 Honda ADV160

Boon Siew Honda Sdn. Bhd. introduces several new colours for the 2025 Honda ADV160.

The Honda ADV160 is a small capacity, lightweight adventure scooter that has seen great sales throughout the country. These new colours refresh the model that has been sold since 2023.

There are two colour categories for this bike – one is the standard, while the other is the special edition.

Standard edition

All-New BMW R 1300 RT and BMW R 1300 RS Debut

As expected, every new iteration of the BMW R XXXX GS and GS Adventure will be followed by a new RT and RS, utilising the same engine. Hence, the all-new BMW R 1300 RT and BMW R 1300 RS debut in the footsteps of the R 1300 GS. (The new R 1300 R was launched two weeks ago.)

Both the R 1300 RT andR 1300 RS appear at the same time as they share most of the same components and features.

Highlights of the all-new BMW R 1300 RT

Two-cylinder boxer engine with the displacement of 1300cc, using the bore and stroke dimensions of 106.5 x 73mm.
The engine produces 143 hp at 7,750 RPM and 149.2 Nm at 6,500 RPM. It is the most powerful production BMW Boxer yet.

Completely redesigned chassis which uses a new sheet steel frame (like the R 1300 R), plus a die-cast aluminium rear frame.
The main differences between the R 1300 RT and R 1300 RS is the front suspension: The former receives the new Telelever Evo from the R 1300 GS, which isolates the handlebars from the suspension to a greater degree than before.

At the rear is the Evo Paralever which offers a stiffer connection via the suspension in the frame and a quick-release axle on the swingarm.

A performance variant is available and this includes a more sporty suspension, short hand levers, milled and adjustable footrests, DTC-Shift, two additional sport screens, sport seat, engine spoiler and sport tyres.

Colour versions include Racing Blue metallic, Triple Black model variant in Blackstorm metallic, sport-orientated Performance variant in Lightwhite Uni, and 719 Cuyamaca variant in Brooklyn Grey metallic.
