The Malaysian Motorcycle Assessment Programme (MyMAP) has officially announced the opening of participation to all motorcycle manufacturers in Malaysia for the above 250cc category and all engine combinations, including internal combustion engines (ICE), hybrid, and electric models.

  • Phase 2 and 3 is open to all 250cc and above motorcycles.
  • The MyMAP programme is dedicated in promoting safer motorcycles.

This development marks a significant expansion of the program and presents an opportunity for premium and high-powered motorcycle models to showcase their safety technology.

Since its inception, MyMAP has been dedicated to promoting safer motorcycles, and it has already awarded five-star ratings to nine motorcycle models from various manufacturers in Malaysia.

However, until now, participation in the program was optional and limited to motorcycles with engine capacities of 250cc and below. With the implementation of the second phase, MyMAP will include motorcycles over 250cc, and eventually, the third phase will encompass all motorcycle types with diverse power combinations.

Director of the Research Center for Vehicle Safety and Biomechanics, Ts. Zulhaidi Jawi, expressed his satisfaction with the response from large and hybrid-powered motorcycle manufacturers.

“We have received many applications from manufacturers, which led to the early opening of the third phase of participation,” he said.

This move is expected to encourage more manufacturers to join MyMAP, promoting the integration of safety technology into basic or affordable models. It aligns with the evolving motorcycle market in Malaysia, which aims to offer a wide range of additional safety features at reasonable prices.

MIROS welcomes manufacturers who are interested in participating in this rating program to submit their applications via email to mymap@miros.gov.my.

Introducing the MVCagiva Crazy Weekend 150 Adventure Scooter – an eye-catching addition to the adventure scooter market in China.

  • the Crazy Weekend 150 is powered by a QJMotor-derived single cylinder engine.
  • the MVCagiva brand is not related to MV Agusta or Cagiva.

This unique two-wheeler, hailing from the newly established brand MVCagiva, offers an intriguing combination of style and functionality. However, while the brand name is a resemblance to an Italian company of the same name – MV Agusta and Cagiva – the Chinese company has no relation whatsoever.

With adventure scooters gaining popularity in China, the Crazy Weekend 150 stands out with its rugged design and undeniable charm. Although the brand name might raise eyebrows, the resemblance to Honda’s X-ADV, ADV150, and ADV160 models is even harder to ignore.

Powering the Crazy Weekend 150 is a 150cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine capable of pumping 16.4hp and 14Nm. Power is delivered to the rear wheel via an automatic continuously variable transmission (CVT).

Impressively, the Crazy Weekend 150 comes loaded with features including LED lighting, dual-channel ABS, a vibrant full-color TFT dash, keyless start, an adjustable windscreen, and a forward-facing camera.

The scooter is available in two configurations, with the base model priced at CNY14,998 (RM9.6k) and an accessorised version, complete with top box, panniers, and guard pieces, available for CNY15,998 (RM10.2k).

The 2023 Honda CBR1000RR-R SP Fireblade now lands in Malaysia in the form of the unique 30th Anniversary edition. Priced at RM208,800 the updated model gets engine updates and more for the new year.

Although major parts of the CBR1000RR-R SP remains the same, the flagship superbike from Honda has been refined for better mid-range acceleration, something that could also help HRC at the WorldSBK.

While peak power remains at 214hp @ 14,500rpm, Honda has revamped the intake ports, airbox and mid-section exhaust. Interestingly, Honda also increased the final drive sprocket to 43 from the previous 40.

Moving on to electronics, Honda has improved the traction control with a new algorithm for better rear-wheel traction followed by revised Nissin callipers while the front is equipped with Brembo callipers.

Other key features include:

  • LED light setup
  • TFT dash
  • engine braking
  • traction control
  • wheelie control
  • launch control
  • cornering ABS

Nonetheless, the main aspect that caught our attention is of course the 30th Anniversary livery that gives a nod to the 1992 Honda Fireblade.

According to the Japanese manufacturer, the bodywork is carried out by Hiroaki Tsukui, the same man behind the original Fireblade livery in 1992.

In a groundbreaking development, the world’s first titanium-built motorcycle is nearing completion, leaving motorcycle enthusiasts in awe.

  • This remarkable project features a Suzuki Hayabusa engine encased in a breathtaking titanium frame, swingarm, exhaust, subframe, and bodywork.
  • the project is spearheaded by New Jersey custom builder W. Robert Ransom,

Titanium, known for its lightweight and robust properties, makes it an ideal material for various applications. Its strength surpasses that of aluminum while weighing only 60% more. Additionally, when exposed to high temperatures, titanium oxidises into captivating, permanent colors, making it highly desirable for motorcycle exhausts.

However, the adoption of titanium in motorcycle construction has been limited due to its high cost and challenging workability. The metal’s reactivity at elevated temperatures poses difficulties during welding, as it readily forms brittle compounds when exposed to ambient air. Moreover, titanium’s natural springiness in sheet form requires extra effort to shape it into intricate designs necessary for motorcycle bodywork.

Despite these challenges, New Jersey custom builder W. Robert Ransom, commissioned by a customer named Mohammed, undertook the ambitious task of creating an all-titanium motorcycle. Ransom aimed to showcase unparalleled artistry and craftsmanship in the motorcycle industry.

The heart of this groundbreaking motorcycle is a modified second-generation Suzuki Hayabusa engine, boasting around 200 horsepower. Nearly all components, including the stunningly curved tubular frame and rigid swingarm inspired by MotoGP designs, are meticulously crafted from titanium. The swingarm, slightly extended and designed for optimum cornering performance, is also constructed with curvaceous titanium tubing.

Among the remarkable features of this motorcycle is the custom 4-into-2-into-1-into-2 titanium exhaust system. With over 130 sections on the header pipes alone, this exhaust setup, along with its ram’s horn headers and teardrop-shaped under-seat cans, is an undeniable standout element.

The top-tier Pinnacle variant, retailing at INR269,000 (RM15k), boasts two-tone alloy wheels, striking color combinations with 3D decals, and machined cooling fins for a premium aesthetic.

Under the X440’s chassis lies a 440cc, air-cooled, fuel-injected, single-cylinder engine. Delivering 27 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 26 pound-feet of torque at 4,000 rpm, this motorcycle competes favourably with other retro-style 400cc bikes on the market. Power is transferred to the rear wheel via a six-speed manual transmission, enhanced with an assist slipper clutch for a smoother and more comfortable ride.

Designed to tackle India’s challenging road conditions, the Harley-Davidson X440 features robust and modern underpinnings. It comes equipped with a 43mm  inverted front fork and gas-powered, preload-adjustable twin shocks at the rear.

The bike relies on front and rear disc brakes with dual-channel ABS, provided by Brembo subsidiary ByBre, to ensure reliable stopping power. Additionally, the X440 rides on 18-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels fitted with MRF Zapper Hyke tires.

While the X440’s tech package remains simple, featuring only dual-channel ABS, it does offer a minimalist TFT display pod and a full set of LED lights. Notably, the motorcycle lacks traction control and rider modes, emphasising a back-to-basics approach.
