  • This model sees the Chinese brand fielding a new 649cc V-twin heart with a claimed 75HP.

After filing the patents last October, the new motorcycle has officially passed the homologation process thus edging closer to production.

The recent patent application also revealed some key technical details surrounding the model. Key to which is the engine that the QJMotor QJ650 adopts – a 649cc V-twin with a claimed output of 75HP.

Moreover, the two patent documents filed also revealed the QJ650 will come in two variants. One of which will be a higher-specced ‘Adventure’ offering brimmed with a set of luggage side and top boxes. Other details revealed include a claimed weight figures of 219KG (standard) and 249KG (Adventure), as well as the presence of an ABS module.

The new 650 will feature things like crash bars and handguards along with a wire spoke wheels.

As for release date and availability, QJMotor remains mum about it for now, but word has it we will see this V-twin model officially debut sometime later this year.

Road safety experts highly praised the Road Transport Department’s (JPJ) decision to revoke licences of road users who fail to renew them by the end of the month.

  • Road users have until 30 June to renew their expired driving licences.
  • Expired driving licence holders will need to retake their driving test if failed to adhere to the deadline.

JPJ has decided that expired driving licences of one to three years will need to retake the driving test if they fail to renew their licence by 30 June.

According to Universiti Putra Malaysia Road Safety Research Centre head Assoc Prof Dr Law Teik Hua, driving with an expired licence is an offence and could put other road users in danger.

“I agree with the JPJ decision because active drivers’ information is required for the formulation of traffic and road-user policy regulations as well as road development plans and funding allocations.

“This is important in terms of enforcement. This is to make it easier for traffic police or JPJ to spot repeat and serious traffic violators whose licences had been revoked.

“The public can renew their licences at post offices or JPJ offices, or through the MyEG website. It can also be renewed at JPJ offices at Urban Transformation Centres (UTC) which are also open on weekends,” he said.

Meanwhile, Consumers Association of Penang education officer N.V Subbarow also supports JPJ’s decision but added that those who drink and drive, caught speeding and have dozens of unpaid summonses should also have their driving licence revoked.

QJ Motor has entered the big scooter segment with the all-new Fortress 350.

  • the Fortress 350 is QJ Motor first foray into the maxi-scooter category.
  • designed in collaboration with Ricardo Motorcycles.

The QJ Motor Fortress 350 is the Chinese motorcycle manufacturer first attempt to dived into the maxi-scooter segment, with the help from Ricardo Motorcycles who helped with the designed.

The Fortress 350 is powered by an all-new engine which could also lead to more new models in the coming future.

Fitted with a 349cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder mill, the Fortress 350 makes 34hp, making it the most powerful scooter in the QJ Motor stable.

While the side profile design is a reminiscent of other Japanese maxi-scooter like the Yamaha XMax and Honda Forza, the overall design has a few nods to continental brand like the BMW C 400 X and C 400 GT.

This is because Ricardo Motorcycles also have a hand in designing BMW’s scooters.

Other modern features include:

  • full colour TFT display
  • ByBre brakes
  • ABS
  • traction control
  • electronic adjustable windscreen

Meanwhile, reports suggest that it is likely the QJ Motor Fortress 350 will be rebadged as Benelli and will be sold in Europe beginning with France and Germany.

Fabio Quartararo produced another masterclass display to win the German GP.

  • It was Quartararo’s third win of the season.
  • Francesco Bagnaia dramatically crashed out at the early stage of the race.

Bagnaia made a good start after securing the first pole at Sachsenring; however, it wasn’t enough to hold off current MotoGP champion Quartararo.

The Frenchman recorded his third win of the season to secure his championship lead with 172 points ahead of Aprilia’s Aleix Espargaro (130 pts) and Johann Zarco (111 pts.)

Fellow Frenchman Zarco took his fourth podium at second-placed, followed by Ducati’s Jack Miller, who, despite being handed a long lap penalty, managed to come in third.

Nevertheless, it was a disastrous day for Ducati teammate, Bagnaia, who, despite starting the race at pole position, went down after just five laps.

It was the Italian fourth DNF this season, thus putting him further behind Quartararo in the championship standings with just 81 pts.

After the race, Bagnaia expressed his disbelief at what had happened.

“I’m trying to replay in my mind what happened, and I cannot explain my crash.

“For sure, if I crashed, it’s because I made a mistake. But in this situation, it’s very difficult to understand why.

“Looking at the data, it’s impossible to understand. I was angry like this because I can’t explain it. I’m very angry because when you crash and you know why it’s your mistake, normally I’m very self-critical.

“But today, the reason why I crashed is something I can’t explain. So it’s more difficult to understand, it’s more difficult to accept,” he said.

Mathematically, Bagnaia now needs to beat Quartararo by an average of over nine points per race to salvage his hopes of challenging the title, a daunting task over the remaining ten rounds.

MotoGP action will be back at the end of the week at the Dutch GP in Assen.
