Five high-powered motorcycles got into an accident on the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway at the KM26.5 (Kuala Lumpur bound) around 1.45 pm, today.

The incident caused a massive eight kilometres crawl after the right lane remained closed as of 2.30 pm, said Selangor Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department director Datuk Norazam Khamis.

“Six firemen along with a fire tender from the Selayang Fire and Rescue Department rushed to the scene.

“Upon arrival, they were informed of a fire involving a motorcycle that was completely burnt due to an accident.

“It was understood that five people were involved in the accident. One of them suffered burns,” he said in a statement today.

Earlier, several videos of the incident went viral online. Reports also suggest that the accident involved four BMWs S 1000 RR and one Honda CBR1000RR.

English motorcycle racer, Gino Rea suffered a crashed during the second free practice at the 2022 Suzuka 8 Hours, last Saturday.

  • Gino Rea sustained a serious head injury during the second practice round at Suzuka.
  • The rider was flown to the nearest hospital for immediate medical attention with doctors kept Rea in medically-induced coma.

Medical personnel rushed to care the FCC TSR Honda France rider, but due to severe injuries, Rea was airlifted to a local hospital.

The team had earlier confirmed that the rider sustained a serious head injury due to the crash and remained in critical condition.

As a result, Rea is put under medically-induced coma for days.

International media tried to get a hold of Rea’s condition but due to the injury’s severity, no recent updates were collected.

However, Rea’s family has shared an update regarding the situation.

“We couldn’t make a post earlier due to the Japanese culture, as they do not release any news to media without the direct contact with the family first.

“We arrived in Japan on August 8 and 8pm with many thanks to the EWC, FIM, Suzuka Circuit, British Consulate, and TSR Racing Team for all the help in arranging emergency visas for us,” said Rea’s family in a statement.

The statement also explained that doctors kept the rider in medically-induced coma as an effort to reduce the swelling on his brain.

However, according to the family latest update via Rea’s official Instagram account, the rider showed a sign of recovery with reduced swelling after undergoing CT-Scan.

“He is in a stable condition and recovering from the usual side effects from such a trauma. We are looking forward to a speedy recovery from him as we all know he is capable of it,” the statement read.

  • There were so many crashes over every race weekend in 2018.

  • But it was Marc Marquez who topped the MotoGP crash list.

  • However, it was Stefano Manzi who crashed most often over the three classes.

Marc Marquez may had captured his fifth MotoGP crown in 2018, but he also tops the crash list.

Marquez hit the ground 23 times last year, ahead of Alvaro Bautista who found the kitty litter on 21 occasions. The former would have destroyed many more bikes if not for his superhuman feats in saving sure crashes. However, 23 crashes are an improvement over the 2017 season during which he wiped out 27 times.

The world champion crashed mostly in practice sessions as he pushed his tyres and bikes to discover their limits. He will then know how much he could push during the race.

Other Top 5 crashers were Xavier Simeon (18), and Cal Crutchlow tying with Jack Miller at 17.

Malaysia’s Hafizh Syahrin fell 9 times.

However, Marquez’s number of crashes pales in comparison to riders of the other classes. Stefano Manzi (whose front brake lever was squeezed by Romano Fenati) went belly up 31 times in Moto2.  Manzi was followed by Lowes (27), Marco Bezzecchi (24), Jorge Navarro (24), Gabriel Rodigro (22). Marc Marquez would have slipped in 5thplace.

There were 303 crashes in MotoGP, 418 in Moto2 and 356 in Moto3. That totals up to 1,077. The number is a reduction from 1,126 in 2017.
