Jonathan Rea revealed plans to move to professional motocross once he leaves the WorldSBK Championship.

Rea admitted the doors to MotoGP have closed despite winning the WSBK six years in a row.

“To leave Superbike… it would need to be something that sets me on fire, as I’m comfortable in the Superbike environment.

“To consider something else – like MotoGP – I would need something concrete, like a factory bike, and this has never materialised. I don’t think the opportunity will come now that I am 33. SBK is my world and I’m happy. Then after the races I enjoy my little ones,” said Rea.

Rea did have a go at MotoGP in 2012 when he replaced the injured Casey Stoner at Repsol Honda. The rider finished 8th at Misano and 7th at Aragon before returning to SBK duties.

The British rider joins Kawasaki in 2015 as Tom Sykes new teammate and won his WSBK title after recording 14 wins.

Rea retained the title in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020, becoming the first rider to win six successive SBK champions.

According to Rea, despite retiring from WSBK one day, he would like to keep himself match fit via motocross.

“I would like to enjoy Anaheim Supercross. Also, I have a desire to do a national motocross championship race after retiring, probably something in Northern Ireland, like a championship race in Ulster.

“I ride my dirt bike quite regularly, so I’d love to do that,” he added. – GPOne

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Ducati first world title in the 2001 Superbike championship, the Borgo Panigale firm has set up a temporary exhibition, “Troy Story: The Legend of a Champion” at the Ducati Museum.

The exhibition display new and exclusive content for the fans to get up close to the success of Troy Bayliss at the Superbike championship.

According to Ducati, the date of 21 May, chosen for the reopening of the Ducati Museum, is not accidental.

On this day, 20 years ago, the virtually unknown Troy Bayliss accomplished a feat that turned him overnight into a motorcycling legend in the hearts and memories of all Ducati and Superbike fans; the extraordinary quadruple overtaking move at the Monza circuit.

Interestingly, Bayliss was coming in for the injured Carl Fogarty before Ducati decided to allow him to finish the championship onboard the factory 996R.

In the 2000 season, Bayliss finished sixth in the championship, accumulating 243 points, two wins and seven podiums.

Ducati then awarded a seat in the Ducati Infostrada team, where Bayliss won his first WSBK title in 2001.

Those who visited the Ducati Museum will get to admire all of the Australian rider machines which include:

  • 996 Factory 2000 – his Ducati World SBK debut and used at Monza in the famous quadruple overtake.
  • 996 Factory 2001 Testastretta – his first world title with the livery used at Imola in 2001.
  • 998 Factory Testastretta 2002 – the protagonist of the breathtaking duel with Edwards at Imola.
  • 999 Factory 2006 “Superman” – Ducati’s 250th victory in SBK, and Troy’s second title.
  • 999 Factory 2007 – used in the photo-finish against James Toseland at Assen.
  • 1098 R Factory 2008 – his last title won at Magny-Cours

For those living outside of Europe, you can get a chance to view the exhibition via Ducati Museum Online Journey.

The temporary exhibition “Troy Story: The Legend of a Champion” will remain at the Ducati Museum until 19 September 2021, with the sole exception of the days between 1-4 July, when the bikes will be exhibited in Modena at the 2021 edition of Motor Valley Fest.

The BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team clinched the best team result so far at the opening round of the 2021 season thanks to the German marquee new weapon, the BMW M 1000 RR.

During the race in Motorland Aragon, BMW Motorrad riders Tom Sykes and Michael van der Mark finished the race in 4th and 5th, respectively.

Interestingly, they were just half a second off the podium positions.

Van der Mark even set the fastest lap of the race on the M 1000 RR, which help him to shot through from 15th on the grid to finish fifth at the end of the race.

The Dutch rider briefly took the lead on lap six before spending several laps defending second place against defending champion and Kawasaki Racing Team (KRT) rider Jonathan Rea and Alex Lowes before the two eventually passed him.

Van der Mark and Sykes swapped position later on before the two secured their best result in WSBK at 4th and 5th place.

“A bittersweet day, really. We definitely had a Superpole race to forget, which we won’t go into too much detail about. That meant that we compromised our start position in race two. For race two, I wanted to go with the slick tyre, but after this morning, we opted to play it safe on the intermediates.

“I could see what the guys in front of me were doing but obviously considering the tyres we were on, I tried a different strategy to feel where the BMW M 1000 RR was working and where we had to improve. Unfortunately, we just missed out on the podium today, but considering our results here last year it is a huge improvement,” explained Sykes after the race.

Van der Mark also shared his take on the M 1000 RR.

“This morning, we had a wet warm-up session which was my first time on the BMW M 1000 RR in the rain, and to be honest, I had such a good feeling from the first lap. The Superpole race was in mixed conditions, but I opted to go with the slick tyre and in the end was the right choice.

“Despite that, we made a good start, had some incredible battles taking the lead, but I knew I was asking too much of the tyres and in the end, some guys got past me. But we have got to be happy with the two P5 positions and most importantly the experience I’ve gained with the BMW M 1000 RR,” he said.

Beberapa jam sebelum aksi pembukaan tirai Kejuaraan Superbike Dunia (WSBK) berlangsung di Aragon, Kawasaki Racing Team (KRT) kini berdepan isu ‘rev limit’.

It is not a fluke that Jonathan Rea is the world best at World Superbike Championship (WSBK), as he currently holds six world titles.

As Rea prepares himself ahead of the new season, the Kawasaki Racing Team WSBK rider just proves how good he is by smashing the Aragon WSBK lap record on his all-new ZX-10RR.

What other ways to send fear down the spine on everyone else than to show you are looking for the seventh WSBK title.

The British rider was in incredible form during the 3-day test in Aragon, clocking 1 minute 48.528secs, breaking his 1m48.767s that he recorded last year.

The ZX-10RR continues to be the fastest machine for 2021 WSBK as Rea’s team-mate, Alex Lowes, recorded the second-fastest time with the KRT pair racking 333 laps in three days.

  1. Johnathan Rea (Kawasaki WSBK) 1m49.338s
  2. Cal Crutchlow (Yamaha MotoGP) 1m49.460s
  3. Alex Lowes (Kawasaki WSBK) 1m49.470s
  4. Dani Pedrosa (KTM MotoGP) 1m49.912s
  5. Garrett Gerloff (Yamaha GRT WSBK) 1m50.557s
  6. Andrea Locatelli (Yamaha PATA WSBK) 1m51.550ss

Kejuaraan Superbike Dunia (WSBK) 2020 menyaksikan Jonathan Rea merangkul kejuaraan buat kali keenam berturut-turut.

  • Jonathan Rea and Kawasaki are 2017 WorldSBK Champions

  • 12th win of the season for Johnny Rea and KRT

  • Rea is the first rider to score three successive WorldSBK championships

Jonathan Rea and Kawasaki Racing Team (KRT) are 2017 WSBK champions after blitzing the field in Race 1 at the Magny-Cours Circuit in France, with two rounds and five races to go.

Rea charged into the lead from pole positioned and pulled clear of the pack, and continued to put the hammer down throughout the 21-lap race in treacherous wet-drying conditions. This latest win gave him the 12th victory of the season, making him the first WorldSBK rider to win three successive titles.

Jonathan Rea charged to an excellent victory at the Magny-Cours circuit in France on Saturday to secure a historic third consecutive WorldSBK title, crossing the line over 16 seconds ahead of second placed Marco Melandri (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati), with Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team) finishing third.

It was a truly gritty ride from Rea’s teammate Sykes as the Yorkshireman returned to action with a third place result, having had surgery on a finger injury less than two weeks ago – after a Portimao crash. Sykes completed the podium after just losing out on second place to Melandri in the final stages of the race.

Five seconds off the rostrum positions was Leon Camier who had another excellent ride for MV Agusta Reparto Corse. Another 19 seconds back on his compatriot Camier was Alex Lowes (Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team) who rounded out the top five.

Eugene Laverty (Milwaukee Aprilia) and Leandro Mercado (IODARacing) were sixth and seventh respectively, whilst Davide Giugliano (Red Bull Honda World Superbike Team) was the eighth rider home.

Early in the race there was a crash for Michael van der Mark (Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team), which also saw Xavi Fores (BARNI Racing Team) go down, but remarkably Dutchman Van der Mark fought back to finish ninth, ahead of Chaz Davies (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati).

Race 2 at the Pirelli French Round will get going at the 4.411km Magny-Cours track at 7pm Malaysian time on Sunday.
